The fair colours give way to the fleecy clouds, and the sky is no longer brilliant with the tints of heaven. It is beautiful, but, alas, it passes away, and lo, it is not. You have seen the arch of heaven as it spans the plain: glorious are its colours, and rare its hues. We ask this in Jesus' name, and for your glory, O God. Make your grace and power known in our day, especially to those who do not yet know you as God. We need your help, and we need to find you in the middle of our troubles. So, dear Father, I ask you to act to show your might and grace in our world at this difficult time. Our God is the God of salvation, deliverance, and answered prayer (Acts 12:5)! Let's go to him and trust him and see him work deliverance in our day! Today's PrayerĪlmighty God, I believe that you are the Sovereign Lord of all things and all times and all peoples. For Peter, it was a new experience that bordered on living out a dream - except this dream was real. For God, working deliverance for Peter was as simple as walking down the street. There were no tremors from an earthquake. No lightning with rumbles of thunder shook the earth. There was a bright light, but only in the prison cell (Acts 12:7). Peter was delivered by the angel step-by-step, leaving his cell, walking past the guard posts and the iron gate leading out to the city - since the gate opened by itself, and then getting to the street. And I recognize that when I have been unwilling to listen for your voice, I have separated myself from the influence of your presence and have only caused myself grief. Loving Father, the holy and Almighty God, my soul yearns for your presence. That longing reminds us of our need to return to God! Today's Prayer ![]() The yearning we feel for God's presence in us through the Holy Spirit is a good thing. God's Spirit will not abandon us, but we can grieve the Spirit of God (Ephesians 4:30), quench his influence and presence (1 Thessalonians 5:19-20), and resist his influence and teaching (Acts 7:51). They wondered why the power and influence of the Holy Spirit weren't present in the life of their community and in their nation when they, in fact, had grieved and opposed the Spirit of the Living God. ![]() In their rebellion against God, the Lord's people forgot that they were the ones who had left him rather than him abandoning them.
